OETI is an international, independent testing and certification services provider. OETI has decades of expertise and a specialist team offering comprehensive service and reliability in the areas of OEKO-TEX® certificates and labels, textiles, leather and due diligence along the textile and leather supply chain, personal protective equipment (PPE), flooring technology and interior design materials.

We are a founding member of the ‘OEKO-TEX® - International Association for Research and Testing in the Field of Textile and Leather Ecology’ - OEKO-TEX® for short. Together with our Swiss parent company TESTEX, we are official OEKO-TEX® representatives in many countries worldwide.

OETI is committed to the “Sustainable Development Goals” - a core element of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda. These goals for sustainable development were adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015. We at OETI actively help achieve all those UN sustainability goals that affect the industries we work for.

OETI – Competence creates confidence

1967

In April 1967, Prof Wilhelm Herzog - OETI's founder and later Institute Director - holds a presentation in which he points out the necessity of a carpet research and testing facility.

1967

On 25 September 1967, renowned floor manufacturers found the Austrian Carpet Institute (Österreichisches Teppichinstitut - then short ÖTI).

1970

OETI is now authorised by the Federal Ministry for Building Affairs and Technology to issue certificates, which are equivalent to authentic instruments.

1970

Intercarpet - The Number 1 conference of Europe's carpet industry. First edition.

1971

Standardisation work for the EU: OETI becomes a significant contributor to the creation of carpet test and requirements standards in Europe.

1973

From 1973, OETI has built testing equipment. One test device is even delivered to the USA.

1976

OETI relocates from Mödling to Spengergasse 20, 1050 Vienna.

1981

OETI puts the newly adapted fire testing laboratory into operation.

1983

Textiles for occupational safety and health: tested (1983), certified (1993), notified (1995).

1989

OETI develops the precursor of today's OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 (1989) and is a co-founder of the OEKO-TEX® Association (1992).

1991

Development of the chemical/ analytical laboratory.

1994

OETI is accredited as one of the first Austrian laboratories under the new Accreditation Act according to EN 45001.

2013

TESTEX AG and OETI merge to form the TESTEX group.

2021

OETI moves into its new headquarters in Vienna, Liesing.
