The OEKO-TEX® association issued more than 31,000 certificates and labels in the past financial year, an increase of 31% compared to 2019/2020. Once again, MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® grew the most, doubling the number of labels. OEKO-TEX® also moved forward with its new Water and Carbon Footprint Tool.

The popularity of organic cotton has grown substantially in recent years. Consumers are increasingly worried about the environment and about harmful substances in the products they buy for themselves and their families.1 For them, organic foods and textiles are good choices, and are products for which they are willing to pay a premium. But, in return for that extra investment, consumers expect the organic products they buy to be genuine and verifiable as such.

Macy’s ( a big clothing and textile retailer chain with 888 stores in the US, Guam and Puerto Rico) state on their website that having MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® has been selected as one of the prerequisites for Macy’s suppliers.
The unique testing process measures the sun protection factor of textiles in a practice-focused and realistic manner under typical usage conditions and makes an important contribution to consumer safety.

Every year, the General Managers of the International OEKO-TEX® Association approve updates and changes for the OEKO-TEX® Standards. The webinar on January 30th at 12 Noon EST will outline the 2018 changes.
Safe in terms of human ecology and yet sustainably produced: these criteria are becoming increasingly important to consumers when buying home textiles. With MADE IN GREEN, OEKO-TEX® offers a label that transparently communicates these product qualities at a glance. Numerous home textile manufacturers of, amongst others, bed linen and terry articles are already using MADE IN GREEN and customer response is positive.
In 2018, the OEKO-TEX® Association endeavours to provide further targeted support on issues relating to consumer protection and sustainability throughout the textile value creation chain.
