OEKO-TEX®, Ecology and the Egyptian textile industry

The Egyptian textile industry is considered one of the oldest in the region. Egypt textilEgyptian textile workerse factories cover all textile processing stages – starting with the spinning of the well-known Egyptian cotton in different counts, the spinning of synthetic yarns and blends with natural yarn.

Further, dyeing and printing are also key sectors in Egypt. All sorts of compositions can be dyed with different types of dye. Different techniques of both - all over printed - as well as - piece print - include fashion techniques from foil to sequins , flock and others.

To drive business, the garment sector makes good use of the vertical industry available in Egypt and also of Egypt’s geological position – they do business with many retailers in Europe and USA and are striving to be the main exporters for big retailers all over the world.

STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® and STeP by OEKO-TEX® as main tools to drive business

Ecology is an important aspect for Egyptian garment manufacturers and the whole production chain. They make sure that the plant and production process is handled in a sustainable way by assuring the use of textiles free of harmful substances and textiles that have been manufactured by using environmentally friendly processes and under safe and socially responsible working conditions. This undertaking is achieved by being certified based on STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® and STeP by OEKO-TEX®, which both cover the aspects of sustainability for both product and facility.

Yet, sustainability is as a term and concept still new to the whole industry, which, however, is working to gain, understand and integrate it every day.
